Firebrand senator Jacqui Lambie has wished Tammy Tyrrell well after she announced her decision to quit the Tasmanian’s network and go it alone on the crossbench.

In a statement released on Thursday evening, the senator revealed she had resigned from the Jacqui Lambie Network and would remain in the upper.

The 53-year-old said she would continue to represent Tasmanians as an independent member of federal parliament.

“It’s become clear to me that I no longer have the confidence of the Jacqui Lambie Network to be able to represent it in the Senate,” she said on Thursday.

“While Jacqui has not kicked me out of the network, she has suggested that I go it alone.”

On Friday, Lambie issued a response.

“One of my missions has always been to give people who aren’t part of the political class an opportunity to serve the Australian people,” she said.

“I wish Tammy all the best of luck. We will both continue to represent the great state of Tasmania in the Senate.

“This does not change our working relationship or friendship.”

Tyrrell was elected to the upper house in 2022.

She worked for years as Lambie’s office manager before entering parliament.

The Jacqui Lambie Network has won at least two seats in the Tasmanian state election.
